Can REA help make my router more customizable?

I currently use a router provided by my internet service provider, but the admin interface is quite limited. For example, I can’t manually select network bands or read SMS messages received by the router.

Would REA allow me to unlock or access these additional features, assuming the router hardware supports them? Or are these limitations usually enforced by the router’s firmware?

I’d appreciate any guidance on whether this is possible and how I could get started.

I think REA can’t unlock those features — it never connects to a live device, only analyzes a firmware image on disk.

Firmware analysis is offline-only (inspect-firmware-regions / extract-firmware), caller-supplied engines, Linux x64, 128 MiB / 120s cap. No device connection, root, mounting, flashing, or config writes.

For carrier gateways like the FastMile, band selection and SMS are usually limited by firmware + carrier config, not just a hidden UI. You’d need a manufacturer/GPL firmware release for that exact model to check. Even then, it’s a real project with uncertain payoff.

If you just want full control, bridge the FastMile and put your own router behind it — you get band selection and SMS-to-API immediately.
