The CANable 2.0 device was originally developed by Openlight Labs. This document describes the behavior of an alternative firmware released here.

This firmware enumerates as a standard serial device on Linux, Mac, and Windows for easy interfacing. You can send or receive CAN/CAN FD frame with standard serial communication software.
